Goal Breakdown: Simplify Your Objectives

It is essential for organizations to have a direction to follow, charting solutions that are in line with the challenges established by the company. management, are nothing more than strategic objectives defined by the organization.

Actio’s strategy deployment is important in the management of an organization, as it divides the management in measures and delegate them to all hierarchical levels of the business, making everyone feel responsible, in some way, for the organization's success. Furthermore, by breaking down the main goals into smaller goals, it is easier to measure the performance of each area and each employee, providing an opportunity to carry out corrective actions in a timely manner.

Vicente Falconi, in his book “Management by Guidelines,” states that goals are the foundation of leadership. According to him, without goals, there is no leadership or management, as the breakdown of goals is already the beginning of management. In an interview with Exame Magazine, Falconi explains that everyone in the company needs to have a goal, from the operational level to the highest management level. “The board should set a goal for the executive and make that goal a limit for their bonus. The company's main goal should come from the board and be broken down to lower levels, because that is what signals leadership,” he says.

José Luiz de Lima, product director at Stratec, explains that after defining macro strategic objectives, it is necessary to break them down into goals, and these must be further broken down into action plans and/or strategic projects. “Action plans, when created beforehand, are fundamental to achieving goals. Having well-defined and objective action plans is just as important as having goals,” he explains. According to him, the systematic monitoring of action plans is the critical path of the process, as the actions must be the result of analyzing the “cause” of problematic points, which in turn led to not achieving the previously established goals.

Below is the graph tree view, simulating a breakdown of objectives into goals.

The graphs above (bar graphs) show red bars, which represent unmet goals. Lima explains that, in these cases, analyzing the cause of the problem is extremely important for the success of the action plan, which is directly linked to the indicator created to manage the goals.

To perform this meticulous control of the action plan and its broken-down goals, it is recommended to use a system to automate all information and provide a clearer view of the entire process. Thus, the manager has strategic information objectively, aiding in the decision-making process and leadership itself, as with tactical information, the manager better guides employees on which direction to take.
