Simulating is imitating the behavior of a real system, including some variables that allow us to evaluate other possible scenarios. In complex systems, in order to experiment with modifications whose implementation costs do not allow for real tests, we use computer models of the real system to obtain solutions such as the appropriate layout, the best flow route, the optimum stock levels at each stage of production, the number of machines and people needed, queue times, etc.
In view of these benefits, a new component for the Strategy Management was recently created by Stratec to carry out simulations on the company's final results, changing the outcome of its performance indicators. With this new module, which has been named "Simulations", it will also be possible to carry out scenario analysis in the organization.
According to Guilherme Barbassa, director of Stratec, this is a component that will be sold separately from the software. "The aim is to be able to simulate the impact of variations in the organization's operational and global indicators. If I vary an indicator, for example, transit time, what impact will this have on the company's EBTIDA? If the time is reduced by 10%, what impact will this have on the company's more macro indicators?" he explains.
Using simulation, we arrive at an optimized system, where learning the system's component processes by everyone involved in the solution is yet another advantage of provisioning. It's interesting to see the paradigm shift among employees when they see the impact of their actions on dependent processes, locating bottlenecks, low quality, delays generated, tasks that don't add value, in short, they can analyze the proposed problem in depth, testing solutions without fear of making mistakes.
The most interesting thing about this component is that it allows you to create scenarios with certain variables, such as loading time, unloading time, and any other variable that could affect the result of the overall indicator. "This also applies to simulating targets. In other words, how do we know that all these targets are leading the organization to the desired overall result? What happens if I change a specific target? What impact will this have on the company's overall result?" comments Barbassa.
It's worth noting that the Simulations module also does sensitivity analysis, which allows you to see how sensitive your overall result is to certain variables.
The component is already available for installation and those who already use the software can request the component from Stratec's support team.
