Brasil es el único país de América Latina que lidera uno de los 58 sectores investigados para la publicación del Anuario de Sostenibilidad 2011, según informó el Portal HSM. Según el artículo, la encuesta establece metodologías específicas para medir las acciones de sostenibilidad realizadas por las empresas, así como su seguimiento y evolución.
Itaúsa – Investimentos Itaú achieved leadership in the financial sector ranking. Also according to the portal, the company has been developing a sustainability policy since 2009, aiming to reduce the impacts of its operations on the environment and society. Among the actions that led to the ranking are Green IT programs and the incorporation of eco-efficient technologies.
It also highlights practices that facilitate communication with customers. In addition to reinforcing the partnership with consumer protection bodies, Itaúsa created, for example, tips for conscious use of credit. The president of Banco Itaú, Roberto Setubal, spoke about the importance of initiatives for the company's management, in an interview with Portal HSM “Sustainability is at the essence of our business. And that is why we seek to consistently combine financial performance and managerial competence with attitudes that prioritize ethics and transparency. This is our competitive differentiator and the driving element for us to achieve important results.”
As reported by the HSM portal, the Sustainability Yearbook is prepared by the consultancies Pricewaterhousecoopers (PwC) and Sustainable Asset Management (SAM). In the 2011 edition, the ranking analyzed 58 sectors of the economy and more than 2,000 companies, among the 2,500 largest companies in the world, according to the Dow Jones Global Total Stock Market Index.
